Alma, the daughter of an immigrant mother and a blue-collar father, was the youngest woman ever elected to the Arizona State Legislature. She is now running for the State Senate after serving for 8 years in the House.
Born and raised on the South Side and a proud Sunnyside graduate, she turned her lived experience into action. She has been fighting for working families and immigrants, and ensuring she brought needed resources to her district.
Alma holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Public Health, and a Master’s in Legal Studies from the University of Arizona, with further training from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Despite a divided legislature, she has passed 10 laws, secured millions for Southern Arizona, strengthened labor protections, expanded health care access, and advanced criminal justice reform.
Alma is a champion for underserved communities and a proponent of bold, common-sense leadership. She is proud of her record, grateful for her community’s trust, and ready to continue fighting for Southern Arizona and the values that make opportunity possible for all as the next State Senator of LD 20.
