Neighbors,
My name is Brandon Smith, and I’m running for the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education.
The first question everyone asks is “Why are you running?” My answer is easy. My four year old daughter, Sadie. I want to make sure that AAPS is a place I am proud to send my daughter. Right now, I can’t say that that’s the case.
AAPS is struggling. Financially ($14 Million accounting error, teacher contract issues), in leadership (division over cell phone policies), educationally (minority demographics lagging in test scores). As a longtime public school teacher, I’ve seen firsthand how great schools can transform students’ lives. I’ve also seen where systems fall short and where students, families, and teachers need stronger support.
I’m running because I know we can do better. I have lived here my entire life, and I believe Ann Arbor has the people, talent, and commitment to make that happen. By bringing together the entire community, we can build a school system that supports every student and prepares them for the future.
That’s why I’m running, and I would be honored to earn your support!
Sincerely,
Brandon Smith
